Weisseritz Valley Railway

The Weisseritz Valley Railway is the oldest narrow gauge railway still in service in Germany. The small train from Freital-Hainsberg, near Dresden, to the Eastern Ore Mountains has been steaming away since 1883.
The sightseeing train's section is one of the most beautiful in Europe. The train huffs and puffs along the Rabenauer Grund valley over numerous bridges, up and up to the Malter dam, past the station at Dippoldiswalde and now, since June 17th 2017, continues to the spa town of Kipsdorf.
Once the Weisseritz Valley Railway leaves the town of Freital, home to the Dresden Saxon Porcelain Manufactory, it crosses the wildly romantic Rabenauer Grund valley. The German Chair Making Museum in Rabenau is well worth a visit. It continues along the Red Weisseritz river towards the Malter Dam, and then deeper into the hilly countryside of the Eastern Ore Mountains.
Once in Dippoldiswalde, we recommend a ramble over Dippoldiswalde Heath and a visit to the Tanning Museum.
